Introduction

This article explains the two journeys available in B Impact: Certification for companies interested in pursuing B Corp Certification, and Impact Measurement for companies that want to use the assessment to measure and improve their impact without pursuing certification. It also explains how to select your journey during setup and how to opt into the certification journey later if your plans change.

Opting into the certification journey 

There are two experiences for users on B Impact – Certification for companies interested in pursuing certification, and Impact Measurement for companies that want to use the assessment as a free tool to measure their impact, but are not interested in, or eligible for certification.

After you create an account and register your name and email, you will need to choose a journey: 

• Certification: If you want to pursue B Corp certification soon, select “Yes, we want to certify!”. Selecting this pathway will give you access to B Impact’s full functionality. 

• Impact Measurement: If you are simply exploring the standards, select the second option: “Nope, we aren’t interested at this time.” This pathway will limit some features of B Impact, such as uploading documentation.

Once you have selected your journey, you will need to complete certification setup. The setup experience varies based on the user journey selected:

• Certification: The setup experience will take you through a personalized questionnaire divided into four sections. This helps determine your company's eligibility for B Corp Certification and understand the scope of your company's operations. By getting to know more about your company, we'll be able to tailor your assessment to your company's size, industry, and location.

• Impact Measurement: If you have not opted into the Certification journey, you will only complete section 4 of setup, which tailors your assessment to your company's size, industry, and location.

Once you have completed setup, a self-assessment is generated and you can start measuring your company's impact.

How do I opt into certification later?

If you change your mind and want to pursue certification after selecting the Impact Measurement journey on the Certification Interest page,  you can still opt into certification later in the process.

Start by navigating to the Home tab on the left side menu. Click “Get started” on the card “Interested in becoming a Certified B Corp?”. This will bring you to the certification setup page where you can start filling out each section to determine your company’s eligibility for certification.
