GRI Standards and B Impact Assessment Alignment

Modified on Thu, 11 Mar 2021 at 11:25 AM

The GRI Standards are the world’s most widely adopted sustainability reporting standards. They create a common language for organizations of all sizes to report on their sustainability impacts in a consistent and credible way. On the other hand, the BIA offers businesses a tool for measuring and managing their impact on all of their stakeholders. While fulfilling different purposes, GRI reporting and the BIA both help companies increase their awareness and transparency on their impacts.

B Lab and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) have published a linkage document — Complementary Use and Linkage of the GRI Standards and BIA — that enables any company to explore how The GRI Standards and B Impact Assessment align, and how to leverage data from their GRI sustainability report with the BIA’s impact report, or vice versa.

The publication addresses interconnections and differences between GRI and the BIA, and includes a detailed, two-way mapping resource that provides practical assistance for companies to identify correlations between BIA impact areas and indicators and GRI topics and disclosures. Bringing these insights together can allow your company to unlock a more holistic approach to how these impacts are disclosed and managed.
